Deere in the headlights, aka wine roadkill at The John Deere Classic, TPC Deere Run, July 4-7, 2024
What comes first, supply or demand? The question occurred to me as I googled the wine scene in the Quad Cities early in the week of the John Deere Classic. There isn’t much to get excited about, but it could be 100% appropriate for the tastes of the market. Based on what I saw, food, cocktail and craft beer cultures are alive and well, so someone with passion might be able to raise the “bar” for wine and stimulate demand. This of course assumes local laws and distributors make the supply side possible. Ok, enough philosophy, Horatio, I’m thirsty.
If you are too, you have two (related) choices: a pair of restaurants seemingly owned by the same organization that have the confidence to post their lists online, and they are about as good as you might expect.
The Bass Street Chop House list is California-heavy and not especially creative, but at least there are some viable choices among the selected cabs and pinots.
Combine, A Bass Street Restaurant has a smaller and less inspiring list, but hey, bottles are half price on Saturdays so they’ve got that going for them, which is good.
